How caused: Excessive rainfall is the main cause of flood. At times it rains cats and dogs and water flows in the rivers and seas above the danger-level. It causes floods. Rivers are also over-drowned by sudden tidal waves. Floods may also occur when embankments are broken.
Havocs/Evils of flood: Floods cause much evil to a country. They ruin crops, wash away houses, uproot trees and destroy men and cattle. During the last few years. floods swept over Bangladesh and caused much harm to the people. The floods devastation resulted in numerous fatalities and left many individuals homeless.
After-effects of flood: The after-effects of floods are more serious. Epidemic and famine breaks out in the flood-affected areas and many people die of starvation. People die of cholera, dysentery, diarrhoea and fever. Scarcity of pure drinking water also causes great sufferings to the people.
Influence on our economy: Floods destroy our houses, cattle, crops, trees and plants and cause a huge loss to our national economy.
Flood control measures: Irrigation system should be introduced in places where floods take place too often. Obstacles to natural flow of water should be removed so that excess water may flow easily. The silted up mouths and beds of rivers should be dredged so that they may carry more waters. Rivers should be controlled by building dams on their banks.
Conclusion: It is really a happy thing that our Government are aware of it and is taking steps to prevent floods.
